Find more about Bars of Ivy below! -- ABOUT THE SHOW: Bars of Ivy: The College Admissions Scandal Musical is a fresh, new musical about the college admissions scandal written by teenage writing duo Casey Lyons and Caroline Miller. It follows Ivy McKenna, a high school senior who gets caught up in the scandal, and faces the consequences for a crime she didn't commit. Ivy learns the power of friendship, loyalty, and truth as she is forced to accept unfortunate events out of her control. Our summer 2021 production was written, rehearsed, and produced during the pandemic. In January, Casey, who, like many others, already knew the scandalizing story of wealthy parents paying to play in the college admissions system, posed the question--What if the children weren't involved in the scandal, and they found out with everyone else? How crushing would that feel? He wrote his first song from the show about it and showed it to Caroline. Caroline was quickly on board with the idea, and started working on the script. Casey and Caroline researched, reading through court documents and watching documentaries-- trying to make characters authentic to the situation. They then brought on a team of talented friends to put the show out there for the first time. The group had two successful performances--and all $6,000 in ticket sales and donations went to Saving tiny Hearts Society. Casey and Caroline are now working on updating the show.
